Margie Almeata Harris was born in Simon, Oklahoma on August 17, 1940. Her parents Rev. Houston Harris and Clara Fay Harris had two daughters, Margie being the eldest between her and Rita Gale Harris. Her family then moved to Dos Palos, California in order for her father to establish a church through the Pentecostal Churches of God. Margie met DW McClain soon after he left the United States Army and married at the age of 15 years old in 1956 becoming Mrs. Margie McClain. Margie and DW bought a house in Merced, California. Margie and DW had five sons; Darrell, Ronald, A. Keith, Kevin, and Michael. Margie was hired on at Franklin Elementary School as teachers assistant through the Merced City School District. She retired after 26 years of service. DW worked for Sutter Hospital on 13th Street in South Merced, later changing its name to Merced Community Medical Center and then to Mercy Medical Center. Margie also was the Educational Superintendent at Calvary Temple on Highway 59 for a few years as well as a Sunday School Teacher. Margie and DW helped out at Harvest Time Food Ministry directed by Floyd Roland located at Calvary Assembly of God for a few years until she became ill in the early 2000s. Margie was diagnosed with Hotchkins Lymphoma, a cancer in the lymph nodes and white blood cells. After many years of treatment the cancer was gone from her body. Margie passed away at Merced Mercy Medical Center on the corner of Mercy Ave and G St at 11:38pm on April 6, 2011. Her legacy will live on as a beautiful caring person with the help of her Five sons and families including 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Margie's funeral and celebration service was on Tuesday April 6, 2011 at 10am. Many friends and loved ones were there to celebrate the life of such an amazing person. She was laid to rest alongside her mother (1919-1996) and father (1919-2011) at Winton Cemetery in Winton, California at around 12:45pm.
